Build your dog’s confidence, focus and decision-making, one track at a time!
Follow the trail with tracking in Shrewsbury
What is Tracking?
Tracking concentrates on teaching our dogs how to understand and follow ground disturbance we create as we walk. Although our dogs are still following human scent, it is different from Mantrailing as there is no person at the end. Instead, the emphasis is put on the precision in following the track and the journey the dog makes, rather than just getting to the end.
This gives us multiple points we can stop and reward at — creating anticipation, while building focus and encouraging dogs to slow down and think.
The benefits of tracking include:
Offers multiple reward points along the track
Helps slow strong/fast dogs down
Encourages calm, methodical searching
Creates consistency in the dog
Helps dogs make better decisions
Provides valuable skills for trailing dogs
Strengthens handler observation skills
Training you can continue at home
Human ID Tracking & Scent Matching
Geek out in the classroom
You can completely geek out in the classroom by teaching your dog how to match human scent using line-up training like you see in scent detection.
Scent Matching focuses on mastering scent discrimination — a skill that is transferable to the track too.
Now, many will say that dogs are discriminating all the time, and they are not wrong. But more often than not, if we put multiple people at the end of a trail, dogs will guess who their person is or locate their food pots or toy the person has on them.
Benefits include:
Stops dogs guessing because they have learnt they don't need to
Encourages dogs to value the retention of scent
Promotes independent thinking
Enhances problem solving skills
An indoor activity ideal for a rainy day
A skill you can continue to practice at home

Review
“We took the scent detection course with Dee and Taffy our cocker spaniel loved it! Dee was very patient and clear in the instructions.
We learned lots of different ways to work with Taffy and tips on how to get the best out of the course.
We would definitely recommend and we hope to continue with Taffy’s progress.”
